INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SUPPORT

The staff section of my website contains a link my son Mark’s business, Kirschner I.T. Services LLC.  I include this link not only as a father trying to support his son’s entrepreneurial venture, but also out concern for the type of Information Technology infrastructure I see among my clients.  What do I mean?

It is a gross understatement to say that technology continues to change very rapidly, and will continue to do so.  One part of a technology professional’s job is to be continually aware of the “latest and greatest” innovations, not to sell them to his clients, but to recognize where a new product can really benefit a client’s operations.

I operate my office using Microsoft’s Small Business Server (SBS), a product which Mark installs and supports.  SBS provides capabilities to my office at a reasonable cost that are usually available only to the large business at considerable cost.  These capabilities include enhanced email communication, security, backup, interoffice and remote collaboration and world class secure remote access to the office system.  Coming soon to my office will be a portal, offering clients access to their files and to securely leave their information on my server.

I am amazed that I don’t see my clients using SBS, as it could greatly benefit them.  When I mention this to their IT advisors, they respond with a blank stare, stating they were not aware of SBS.  This brings me back to the need for the IT professional to be aware of new technology offerings, and to have the vision to put new technology to productive practice in a small business environment.  I commend Mark’s business to you.  His website is www.kirschneritservices.com.  By the way, SBS has been around since 2000.
